Born on March 13, 1950, in Miami, Florida, Macy grew up with a passion for performance and eventually went on to study theater at Goddard College in Vermont.

Before joining "Shameless," Macy had already built an impressive resume, starring in critically acclaimed films such as "Fargo," for which he received an Academy Award nomination. His role as Frank Gallagher, however, brought him into the limelight of television audiences worldwide. With his distinctive portrayal of the flawed, yet oddly endearing patriarch of the Gallagher family, Macy became a fan favorite.

How Much Did William H. Macy Make on "Shameless"?

As the lead actor and one of the most recognizable faces of the show, William H. Macy commanded a significant salary for his role as Frank Gallagher. Macy's earnings were reflective of his experience and the critical acclaim he brought to the series. His paychecks placed him among the highest-paid actors on cable TV during the show's peak. However, his salary wasn’t always this high; like most series, his compensation increased as the show gained popularity and became a cultural phenomenon.

Initially, Rossum's salary was reportedly lower than William H. Macy's, but her earnings eventually became a topic of public discussion. Was Emmy Rossum’s Pay Controversy Justified?

Emmy Rossum’s fight for equal pay sparked debates both within and outside the entertainment industry. Many fans and critics argued that she deserved a salary equal to Macy’s, given her pivotal role in the series. The controversy was ultimately resolved in her favor, sending a strong message about equality and fairness in Hollywood. Her successful negotiation paved the way for other actors, especially women, to advocate for fair compensation.
